What Is a Dental Bridge?
A dental bridge has two parts: crowns and pontics. The pontics are “full-sized” replacement teeth meant to fill in the gaps in your dental lineup. To give these pontics more support and lend a more natural look to your smile, we’ll place a crown on top of the existing teeth on either end of your gap. Basically, we’re “bridging the gap” in your teeth!
Types of Dental Bridges
There are two different ways we can provide you with an effective dental bridge. Traditional bridges work great for a variety of situations, while we typically recommend implant bridges for patients with three or more consecutive missing teeth. You can learn more about both below.
Traditional Dental Bridges
Traditional dental bridges are made from high-quality materials that look incredibly tooth-like. This is the “basic” bridge that we described earlier, with two crowns and at least one pontic.
Implant Bridges
To make an implant bridge, we’ll place dental implants on both ends of your gap. We’ll place the pontics as we would with a traditional bridge, but the supporting crowns will be fixed to the implants instead of natural teeth. This gives the restoration more stability, which is what makes an implant bridge perfect for larger gaps.
The Benefits of Getting a Dental Bridge
A dental bridge can restore your smile and your confidence! Imagine looking in the mirror and being unable to tell where your restoration starts and ends. That’s how seamless a dental bridge can be, and there some other benefits you’ll be able to enjoy as well, such as:
